One small step for man

One giant step for CompTIA. From sea to shining sea, first-hand reports from students and fellow instructors are in. The 600 series A+ tests are nothing like the 300 series. In a word, they are fair. Please note that fair and easy are two different words. A number of people are reporting the 600 series are easy. Easy is a relative term. Compared to the 300 series "how long is a rope?" type questions sure, the 600 series is a walk in the park. And even students with years of experience are finding some subject areas they need to study a bit before successfully challenging the 600 series tests.

The good news is, this does not appear to be a fluke. The DHTI+ test is a fair test as well. Some would also call that an "easy" test. Again it depends on your background.

This is not to say, in my mind, CompTIA has reached nirvana. And I can say,  it certainly appears the lunacy that began six years ago with the organization has had its run and is returning to more rational thinking. It is certainly my hope, the organization continues to find the roots that brought them to splendor in the first place.

With this reversal from the romp in unreality, I am changing my position as well by withdrawing my protest against CompTIA.

I am looking forward to working even more with the ETA-I.org with a focus on completing a full career track for the computer geek to go along with the existing career track for the electronics types. I hope that we can complete this by the end of 2007. I am also hoping am looking forward to spending more time on my beloved CTT+ training as well as showing fellow geeks how their brains work under the banner I have called Training... RememberedTM.

For those of you who do not know ETA-I.org they have certification tests that build on and are complementary to CompTIA offerings. The offerings are more niche oriented such as fiber optics and microwave.

Wishing CompTIA continued success towards getting back to its roots and finding the success it once had,

Certiport to Launch New Microsoft Business Certification Program

Next generation of credentials for Microsoft Office 2007 and Windows Vista to enhance and validate in-demand professional skills valued in business

SALT LAKE CITY – January 24, 2007

Certiport today announced it has been selected as the launch partner by Microsoft® Learning to develop and deliver a new global certification program for business professionals worldwide that focuses on validating business-critical skills. The new Microsoft business certification program for the 2007 Microsoft Office system and Windows® Vista operating systems will feature Web-based pretests, application-specific certification exams and a series of professional certifications that demonstrate expertise in accomplishing essential job tasks across multiple applications.

"I am delighted that we are extending our long-standing and solid relationship with Certiport to bring these new credentials to our customers," said Lutz Ziob, general manager of Microsoft Learning. "Mastery of the core business information tools and business processes is fast becoming a key differentiator, and now businesses have a clear yardstick to assess desktop proficiency for their non-IT staff."

"As innovative businesses around the world are already learning, the new frontier in fostering competitiveness lies in developing the skills of information workers," said David Saedi, president and CEO of Certiport. "This new array of business certifications will propel organizations to greater success as information workers become better equipped to achieve optimum business results."

Part of the new generation of Microsoft certifications, the business certifications will give users the opportunity to certify their skills on new Microsoft technologies and receive a credential logo that identifies them as experts. Compared to the Microsoft Office Specialist program, the customer base and business application of the new Microsoft business certification program will be much broader.

Resulting from its industry expertise grown from an eight-year relationship with Microsoft and its customers, Certiport has developed and beta tested the new certification exams for the new 2007 Microsoft Office System and Vista operating systems and will distribute the first exams in English by the end of February. This will be followed thereafter by the release of exams in Japanese. Other non-English versions will be developed and released before the end of the year. With more than 12,000 testing centers worldwide, Certiport is positioned to provide Microsoft users with complete access to training and test-taking for the new Microsoft business certification program.

Certiport will also continue its role as the worldwide provider of the Microsoft Office Specialist program through a multi-year agreement with Microsoft. Certiport, the developer and sole administrator of the Microsoft Office Specialist program since 1997, will manage the official credential for Microsoft Office 2000, XP and 2003 through 2010. Since the inception, the program has been extended to 21 languages in 128 countries worldwide. Thousands of businesses, academic institutions (secondary and post-secondary) and government agencies deliver training that leads to Microsoft Office Specialist certification.

Certiport Accelerates Exam Delivery to More than 90,000 Monthly as the Company Surpasses 4 Million Milestone

Global leader in providing credentials that denote the acquisition of digital skills valued at work eclipses notable mark makes projections for rapid growth

SALT LAKE CITY – March 7, 2007

Certiport today announced the company's accelerated rate of growth this year will result in the delivery of more than 90,000 certification exams per month. This prolific pace, which led to the delivery of the 4 millionth certification exam in January, currently amounts to 3,000 exams delivered daily. More than a corporate feat, these growing rates represent hundreds of thousands who have acquired digital skills through Certiport IC³® and Microsoft® Office Specialist credentials vital to career success and other life pursuits.

"Our greatest satisfaction in recognizing this tremendous growth is the knowledge these programs have energized individuals and organizations to compete on a global level," said David Saedi, president and CEO of Certiport. "Perhaps more valuable to certificate holders than any other single asset, these credentials are the title to their marketable skills."

Having already delivered 120,000 additional exams since January 26, the date the 4 million mark was surpassed, Certiport analysts project the next million will be reached in the first quarter of 2008, pushing Certiport certifications to the top of the league of certification providers. Rapid growth has been a hallmark of Certiport certification programs: Since 2002, Certiport has delivered the additional 3 million exams in roughly the same amount of time required to deliver the company's first million.

Since its inception, the company has expanded to provide programs in 21 languages and in 128 countries worldwide. Stemming from the global nature of the certification programs, Japanese language exams lead all others as the most popular for Certiport certifications followed by English, Korean, Italian and Greek. Chinese and Arabic exams are expected to join the ranks of top-performing languages in the next two years.

Certiport is an industry leader in developing certification programs that validate essential digital skills that help individuals progress toward meaningful employment. To support these worldwide programs, Certiport has grown a channel of more than 12,000 businesses, academic institutions (secondary and post-secondary) and government agencies that act as testing centers to develop the competitive global workforce.

First of Four Vista Certifications Released
DATE: 08-JAN-2007

By Deborah Rothberg

Transcender, an Atlanta-based provider of exam preparation software and
part of Kaplan IT Learning announced Jan. 8 the release of practice exam
materials for Vista certification, which helps IT professionals
configure, support and troubleshoot Microsoft's new operating system.

This is the first exam that Microsoft has come out with in the Vista
series, and there will be a total of four Vista exams, Brian Scholly,
president of Kaplan IT Learning, told eWEEK.

The 70-620 certification exam, announced the week of Jan. 1, measures
professionals' ability to resolve issues concerning network
connectivity, desktop operating systems, security and applications. If
passed, the IT pro receives a Technical Specialist: Microsoft Windows
Vista, Configuring certification.

Geared toward lower-level IT professionals, Microsoft requests that
candidates for this exam should have at least one year of experience in
the IT field, typically working as Tier 1 to Tier 2-level phone support
in a wide range of environments, from retail to enterprise environments.

Microsoft also requires that candidates have experience resolving issues
concerning network connectivity, desktop operating systems, security and
applications, log-on problems, password resets and other issues with
desktop applications.

A total of four Vista-related certifications will be unveiled over the
first quarter of 2007.

"The next exam will test the support of an enterprise client, the third
will be a consumer support exam and the fourth will be associated with
remote workers," Jim McDonnell, chief technology officer, Kaplan IT
Learning, told eWEEK.

Transcender's certification practice exams, available now at
Transcender's Web site starting at $109 in CD-ROM, download, 30-day
online access or workstation license CD formats.

The practice exams intend to simulate the complexity of the live
certification exam to help technology professionals assess their exam
preparedness through questions, answer explanations and references.

"We believe we are the first out with test prep materials for this
exam," said McDonnell, "and while it is too early to gauge interest, in
terms of monitoring our calls in the last few weeks we'd say there are
strong levels of interest among early adopters, as well as consultants."
